You can take the girl out of the SX but you can't take the SX out of the girl

After the multitude of fiasco's we experienced last year at SXSW, I thought NOT going this year would be an easy decision. But as we draw closer to the music portion of the fest and I'm starting to see all of my favorite bands announce their show dates, my resolve is weakening. Nevertheless, it's too late to say 'screw it, let's go' but if I were going, these are the acts I'd be most interested in checking out...

If you've been paying attention you know how much I LOVE this band. Their live shows can't be beat and this year they'll have plenty to choose from.

Gentle soul and living legend BP Fallon is returning to Austin this year to play a slew of gigs around town with friends and fellow (sometimes) band mates Danny B Harvey, Joe King Carrasco and Annie Marie Lewis. Promoting their recent release of BP Fallon Live in Texas, which was recorded at ABGB during last years' SXSW, I would not be surprised to find Aaron Lee Tasjan or a Ghost Wolf filling in with him at some point as well.

A man I swear will one day be heralded as a prolific songwriter of our generation. Promoting his upcoming album 'In the Blazes', ALT will be bringing his own unique blend of folk rock to the SX scene at the following gigs:

3/18 The Dogwood, 3:30pm
3/19 Yard Dog, 1:30pm
3/21 Clive Bar, 1:05pm; ABGB, 9pm

Don't call it a comeback, they've been here for years. Caught these dudes opening for Jack White at Madison Square Garden in January and of all things I'd love to see, their set at Stubb's is sure to light a match under Austin.

3/16 Spotify House; Funny or Die After Party
3/20 Flood Fest
3/20 SPIN Magazine's SXSW Party at Stubb's

The party band of a generation, Jeff the Brotherhood, recently freed from the confines of their Warner Bros. contract, are out promoting their new Infinity Cat release, 'Wasted on the Dream'. I know their official SXSW Infinity Cat showcase is going to the EPIC beyond words and will also feature PUJOL and Diarrhea Planet.

3/19 Doc’s Motorworks (SXSCongress) 7pm
3/20 Icenhauer’s 7pm
3/21 Lucky Lounge (MerchCat Indie Showcase) 7pm

Last but not least, be sure to catch Third Man Records Rolling Record Store around town and at their pop up store locale based next to Billy Reid at 1122 W. 6th Street. Tons of great bands and merch, Third Man SXSW events always live up to expectations. And if you wanted to nab me a ‘Would You Fight For My Love’ tri-color while you’re there, I’d be ever so appreciative!
